The Children's Authority of Trinidad and Tobago is a specialized agency with the responsibility for the care and protection of children, especially those who are at risk or have been victims of abuse or neglect.

The Children's Authority of Trinidad and Tobago is seeking to recruit for the role of Accountant, on contract.

The Accountant will effectively analyze the Authority’s financial data, recommend tools, and appropriate accounting systems and measures to be put in place.  He/ she will prepare and monitor CATT’s financial records and provide accurate reports to aid organizational decisions.  The incumbent will oversee the payroll function and handle all billing processes.  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • ACCA or CPA or CGA qualified.
  • Four (4) to six (6) years’ experience in a Finance or Accounting role.
  • An understanding of local tax and vat laws and regulations
  • Must be familiar with Computerized Accounting packages, such as Quick Books or Sage 50.
Principal Accountabilities/ Key Functions:
  • Prepare and review taxes and handle all tax queries; ensure payment of taxes within statutory deadlines.

  • Update fixed asset register as acquired.
  • Prepare Cashflow reports daily to ensure that sufficient funds are in the bank for processing of cheques and meeting financial commitments made.
  • Analyze and investigate account variations and address queries from suppliers.
  • Works alongside the Manager, Finance to Prepare daily cashflow reports to ensure sufficient funds in the bank before cheques are processed or funds committed.
  • Check and approve payables, receivables and payroll monthly Journals and Cash Book entries, for posting to the General Ledger.  Ensure that the General Ledger systems are maintained and updated monthly.
  • Ensure that Accounts Payables and Accounts Receivables control accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis
  • Review analysis of Asset and Liability accounts ensuring reconciliation with General Ledger (Other Receivables, Accrued Expenses, Loans, etc.) following completion of Trial Balance.
  • Prepare Fixed Assets and Depreciations Schedules on a monthly basis, and ensure that the company’s assets are adequately insured at all times at competitive rates.
  • Prepares annual budget estimates and attend budget defense meetings to justify the budgets submitted.
  • Liaises with the Internal Auditor as necessary and prepares reports and schedules required to respond to internal audit reviews.
  • Reviews the monthly payroll, petty cash and cheque/ACH payments for accuracy.
  • Conducts audits of work to confirm that the provisions of the Accounting Procedures Manual are upheld.  Coordinates the annual statutory audit including preparation of financial statements and necessary audit schedules.
  • Comply with the various statutory bodies and ensures that all statutory payments are made on a timely basis including Vat, Business Levy, Green Fund, PAYE, Health Surcharge and National Insurance.  Also, respond and resolve all issues.
  • Prepares Central Statistical Office returns.
  • Coordinate and advance special projects as assigned by the Manager, Finance.
  • Assist with the accurate and timely close of accounting cycle
  • Prepares necessary documents for reporting to the Board of Directors and the Line Ministry.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of a team environment by performing other related duties.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
