The API 653 Inspector is responsible for conducting thorough inspection and assessments of above ground storage tanks in accordance with the API Standard – Tank Inspection, Repair, Alteration and reconstruction. The AP Inspector ensures the structural integrity and safety of storage tanks and provides recommendations for maintenance, repair or replacement as needed.
- Perform comprehensive visual inspections of tank and tank material to evaluate their condition, identify defects and assess service life.
- Conduct thickness measurements, corrosion rate analysis and structural integrity assessments to determine the overall condition of tank shell, roof and bottom.
- Evaluate tank’s foundation, supports and appurtenances to ensure compliance to API 650 and 653 standards.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports documenting the tank’s condition, any identified issues and recommend actions for repair, alteration or replacement.
- Provide technical guidance and recommendations to the client on the appropriate course of action to maintain the tank’s structural integrity and safe operation.
- Monitor and oversee any tank repair or alteration work to ensure compliance with API 650 and 653 requirements.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of the latest API 650 and 653 standards, industry best practices and applicable regulations.
- Collaborate with internal and client stakeholders engineering teams to develop and implement tank inspection programs.
- Develop and implement quality assurance and control plans in collaboration with engineering team.
- Carry out the project specific inspection and release as detailed in the Project Quality Plan.
- Conduct Review, Witness and Monitor activities as per the approved Quality Control Plans / Inspection and Test Plan.
- Attend pre-inspection planning meetings / progress meetings.
- Be familiar with the requisition requirements and package/equipment specifications and drawings.
- Review and approve Suppliers / Sub-contractors Quality Control Plans/Inspection Test Plans and procedures.
- Prepare and submit Supplier / Sub-contractor visit reports.
- Raise Non-conformances reports and expedite their close out.
- Be fully aware of concessions raised, approved and / or reject by the requisitioning engineer.
- Monitor package / equipment compliance to statutory regulations (i.e. CE marking).
- Release package / equipment as per project inspection and release process (IRC).
- Review Supplier / Sub-contractor Fabrication/Certification/Data Dossiers on an ongoing basis and prior to release and endorse as appropriate.
- To report promptly to the Quality Lead / Construction Manager / Project Engineer all matters related to inspection, test and release.
- Provide feedback on Supplier / Sub-contractor performance upon request.
- Ensure that all necessary quality records are identified and retained in accordance with company, client and regulatory requirements.
- To participate (as necessary) in management visits / audits as requested.
- Liaise with requisitioning engineer and buyer as appropriate.
- Performs all other related job functions as required.
