ACCOUNTING PERSONNEL 

A leading manufacturing company is seeking Accounting personnel with expertise and experience in the following key areas: 

  • Payables 
  • Receivables 
  • Inventory 
  • Bank Reconciliation  

 

1.      PAYABLES 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare weekly payment schedule 
  • Reconciliation of suppliers accounts on a monthly basis 
  • Preparation of monthly statutory payments for remittance to various government departments 
  • Prepare customer statement (creditors and debtors) 
  • Entering check books to general ledger 
  • Recording and posting of debits and credits for local accounts payables, after checking invoices in terms of prices and computation 
  • Preparation of accounts payable payments as is necessary 
  • Preparation of accounts payable monthly trial balances for distribution 
  • Preparation of General Consumption Tax (GCT) computation 
  • Paying property tax – yearly (April) 
  • Calculation and checking of weekly payroll 
  • Checking of Lodgements  

 

2.      RECEIVABLES  

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Writing up the Head Office Cash Disbursement books  
  •  Management of the  Main Account in terms of: 
    • daily/weekly in-house bank balances 
      • Resolution of problems associated with debits/credits on bank statements and submitting/communicating same to the Head of Department.
  • Writing up Cash Receipt book for HQ and preparation of daily lodgments and balancing with the monthly bank statements. 
  • Recording customer payments on the Accounts Receivables and updating customer balances on the  Accounting Software. 
  • Reconciliation of Accounts Receivable balance monthly. 
  • Printing of Sales Commission reports monthly and preparation of Individual statements for payment. 
  • Preparing and checking lodgement for dispatch to the bank. 
  • Preparation of monthly Accounts Receivables Trial Balances and Statements for distribution. 
  • Preparation of monthly Item Analysis with respect to Sales for the month. 
  • Liaising with customers regarding queries on their account. 
  • Updating daily/weekly sales and collection figures. 
  • Preparation of Monthly Returned Cheque listing and follow-up as it relates to re-collection of these amounts. 
  • Prepare general ledger accounts schedule for year end. 

 

3.      INVENTORY 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department with special emphasis on the monitoring of inventory controls as a means of safeguarding the assets of the company 
  • Assist in the preparation of special reports as required at it relates to inventory. 
  • Assist in audit and budget exercises
  • Assist in the development of internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting. 
  • Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, GOJ policies and directives, and current accounting standards. 
  • Engage in periodic internal audit spot checks both at Head Office and the Retail Outlets in relation to Inventory and cash, to ensure that the correct procedures are being adhered to, in addition to matching physical against book stock balances on hand. 
  • Coordinate and participate in Monthly/Annual Stock counts and the subsequent reconciliation of Stock Balances   
  • Assist with the supervision of accounting personnel involved in monthly physical stock valuation to ensure that the correct unit prices and balances are captured and that the ultimate composite valuation, reflects a true and fair view of the overall inventory items on hand.

Job Requirements: 

  • Tertiary level education or in the process. In accounting, finance, economics, inventory management, or business administration 
  • At least 2-4 years’ experience is required in the field. 
  • Basic knowledge of  Accounting and Inventory software 
  • Knowledge of Financial, Administration and Audit Act (FAA Act) 
  • Computer literacy with sound knowledge of Microsoft Office 
  • Good Time Management Skills 
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels (written and oral)
