1.   Job SUMMARY:

Participates in the provision of a comprehensive and effective Ultrasound imaging service at TCI Hospitals. Performs general and specialised ultrasound examinations.

2.   DIMENSIONS:

3.   RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical

  1. Practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and within a client and family centred care model.
  2. Perform clinical examinations as required and per modality position description.
  3. Review and update consent and questionnaire documentation to be used within department.
  4. Perform quality audits to ensure documentation is being used accurately and effectively.
  5. Place requests in HIS system as per radiologists direction to facilitate patient diagnosis.
  6. Ensure sufficient clinical supplies are available and monitor stock use and re-ordering.
  7. Ensure all mandatory training and inductions are attended.
  8. Prioritize and manage Ultrasound department workflow in order to provide a safe and effective service.
  9. Prioritise requests received to ensure all patients are seen in a time frame appropriate to their clinical urgency.
  10. Perform review of performed examinations each day to ensure all documenting has been completed and images successfully received in PACS.
  11. Monitor on-call service to ensure all time slots are covered and that the service is being used appropriately and responsibly.
  12. Rotate when necesary across both sites to ensure both sites have adequate services
  13. Ensure prompt reporting of equipment faults to Dept. Manager

 

  1. Liaise with clinical staff to report expected service delays/down time.

 

  1. Ensure adequate supply of clinical and admin supplies.

 

  1. Perform other professional duties as may be assigned within his/her scope and ability.

 

Communications

 

  1. Communicate with staff and participate fully as a member of the department team
  2. Liaise with appropriate staff members both internally and externally.

 

Quality

 

  1. Review and follow department quality manual. Assists with all aspects of quality improvement and risk management techniques as established and outlined in the department manual.
  2. Test and clean all equipment for status of imaging, viewing processing, film recording, troubleshoots and or arranges for necessary repairs; cleans technical area and maintains supplies.
  3.  Recognition of equipment faults and of how to rectify.
  4. A commitment to quality and continuous improvement, participates in the department’s quality program.
  5. Ensure all work conforms to the Quality Standards of the department.
  6. Undertakes regular professional development in radiation protection, principles and techniques and complies with all radiation policies, procedures and legislation.
  7. Attends inservices and participates in continuing professional development opportunities.

 

Health and Safety

  1. Responsible for the care and safety of patient while in the department and requests assistance when necessary.
  2. Be aware of all the potential sources of hazards within the x-ray/MRI environment and reduce these hazards accordingly through safe work practices.
  3. Ensures the proper and safe use of equipment and the implementation of all safety procedures.
  4. To use and maintain in safe condition any personal protective equipment required and supplied by the employer to carry out duties safely.
  5. Displays commitment through actively supporting all health and safety initiatives.
  6. Complies with policies, procedures and safe systems of work.
  7. Reports all incidents/accidents, including near misses, in a timely fashion.
  8. Complies with and implements all procedures designed to ensure the safety of both staff and patients when working with ionizing radiation.
  9. Provide appropriate information in accordance with the Data Protection Act and other relevant legislation

 

4.   DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY:

Under the general supervision of the Imaging Dept manager and the Radiologist, autonomous within role responsibilities.

5.   KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

Imaging staff, medical and clinical staff, patients and families

Biomedical Engineer, Medical Representatives

6.    KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR JOB

Education

Qualifications

Training

Required

  • Recognised degree/diploma in a radiography training programme and or ARDMS registration.
  • Holder of professional active practicing certificate of registration from country of training/origin.
  • Current registration through TCI Health Practitioners Ordinance.
  • Up to date BLS certification.

Desired

  • Preferred post-graduate study in specialist modality.
  • Completion of an IV cannulation course.

 

Experience

  • Five years post-certification experience in general Ultrasound and specialist areas as well.
  • Experience of ongoing professional development and self-directed learning.
  • Previous experience working  with a PACS/RIS environment.
  • Preferred Certification and training in Mammography/x-ray

 

Demonstrated Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical imaging, general computer operations and applications.
  • Ability to accurately and competently position patient for imaging procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organise work.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to work independently with remote support from radiologist.
  • Able to perform all aspects of Ultrasonography, to include:
  1. Ob/Gyn
  2. Abd/pelvis
  3. Small Parts-Testicles, Thyroid, Prostate, Breast
  4. Musculoskeletal
  5. Vascular:Carotid Doppler, Venous Insufficiency, Extremity
  6. Neonatal/Pediatric Procedures
  7. Assist with Biopsy procedures
