SAFETY AND MAINTENANCE OFFICER (SOG/ST6)

 

 

 

 

Summary:            The incumbent will be responsible for the updating, implementation and monitoring of company safety, security and occupational health regulations, ensure the proper maintenance and repair of company machinery and be responsible for the security function.

  • Preventative Maintenance Programme in place

Duties and

Responsibilities:

 

Safety and Security

  • Develop, implement and maintain an effective safety and hygiene programme and ensure compliance to satisfy the requirements of local legislation e.g. the OSHA, Bureau of Standards, Public Health (Ministry of Health), Factories Act (Ministry of Labour) and the Environmental Conservation Acts.
  • Develop and monitor systems to ensure all employees comply with all relevant  legal safety requirements
  • Identify safety training needs, organize and co-ordinate safety training courses and prepare training material where appropriate
  • Co-ordinate monthly safety meeting:

- ensure meeting times are set
- agendas are sent out
- minutes are kept and sent out
- ensure that all support documentation in respect of the safety programme is   

      received on time and in the correct format from all concerned parties

  • Assist in appointment of safety representatives for all locations
  • Evaluate accident reporting forms, surveys, audits to establish root causes and together with Supervisors and Managers concerned, formulate a plan of action to correct non-compliant behaviour or conditions so as to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Liaise with on site contractors to ensure their compliance with Company safety regulations and adherence to safety standards, including basic safety training
  • Conduct safety surveys and audits as required to identify and minimize the risk to company and employees
  • Identify unsafe acts, conditions, and hazards,  investigate root causes and identify corrective and preventative actions and report to management
  • Co-ordinate regular evacuation exercises to ensure that all staff become familiar with these procedures.
  • Assist with the  formulation of emergency/contingency plans for:

- Natural disasters
- Industrial action
- Fire
- Explosions

  • Review and update Emergency Procedures as and when necessary
  • Ensure that employees are properly attired with the necessary personal protective equipment at all locations.
  • Ensure that all chemicals used at the plants conform to OSHA Safety Standards and the Bureau of Standards.
    • Ensure that accurate up-to-date records are kept.
  • Ensure that all accidents and near misses are properly investigated and the necessary corrective action taken to prevent recurrence
  • Ensure adequate signage placed at all locations
  • Ensure proper security arrangements at all plants

 

Maintenance

  • Coordinate the Engineering Apprenticeship Programme
  • Supervise the Maintenance Coordinator and Technicians, when necessary, at all three plants and  give assistance and directives when required.
  • Coordinate the Preventative Maintenance Programme, including the scheduling of jobs and lubrication
  • Ensure that all corrective maintenance done on all shifts meet required standards
  • Supervise all maintenance and project contractors in the performance of their contracted duties; giving assistance and guidance where necessary.
  • Establish and maintain records of breakdowns and repairs to assist in constant review and updates of the maintenance programme.

 

Performance Standards:

 

  • Adequate security placement at all NPL locations in keeping with requirements
  • On the job accidents investigated within 24 hours of reporting
  • Contractors engaged according to set guidelines within time frames to complete tasks
  • Safety training scheduled and coordinated to set monthly targets
  • Preventative Maintenance Programme conducted according to schedule
  • Reports are produced according to requirements and within stipulated time frames
  • Equipment repairs are properly managed to reduce production down time
  • Maintenance records are up to date and accurate

  • Authority to develop and implement preventative maintenance programmes

Minimum Required Education and Experience:

 

  • Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • HEART Level 1 HVAC Certification and 2 years experience in servicing refrigeration and industrial cooling systems                         
  • Certification in Safety and Occupational Health
  • Three (3) years experience in maintenance in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food industry.
  • Two years experience in safety and occupational health in a manufacturing environment

REMUNERATION

Basic Salary: $5,198,035.00 - $6,990,779.00 per annum
