The post holder is responsible for the conduct of criminal proceedings under the direction of the Director of Public Prosecutions as well as the Deputy Director - Specialist and/or the Deputy Director - Administration. The post holder prosecutes the more complex cases in the Courts, and assists with anti-money laundering and terrorist financing reform and with the management of the Specialist Section of the Department. They also conduct Criminal prosecutions in all the Courts of Bermuda and provides advice to the Police, Ministries and other Departments on criminal matters as required. The post holder is also specifically responsible for prosecuting hearings and providing advice in respect of the Proceeds of Crime, Mutual Legal Assistance, Extradition and other related matters in all the Courts of Bermuda as required.

 

The post requires a minimum of 8 years relevant post-qualification experience at a senior level, in prosecuting significant criminal litigation as lead or sole counsel at all levels of Court, in courts of unlimited jurisdiction. A substantial portion of this experience must be as a prosecutor in a government legal environment with extensive work in the areas of Extradition, Mutual Legal Assistance and Proceeds of Crime Matters. Additionally, the post requires, at least, 3 years’ experience at a senior management level, with substantial experience managing a team of prosecutors and administrators, preferably in a government environment, along with an extensive knowledge and understanding of the Criminal Justice System. The post holder must be qualified as a Barrister to practice law in a Commonwealth jurisdiction and be capable of being called to the Bermuda Bar.
