Job Summary:

Managing the operations and maintenance activities of the plant to generate maximum revenue at the lowest operating costs consistent with high reliability and sound business practices to facilitate prompt, accurate and efficient service to the stakeholders.

Evaluating operations, maintenance, and financial data; defining plans for aggressive improvement in operations and maintenance performance

 

 Key Responsibilities: 

  • Manage the overall performance of the Plant and its impact on the Cost/Revenue of the facility. 
  • Manage and implement all standard operating and maintenance procedures and policies in accordance with the philosophy of the Company. 
  • Monitor the operational data, inclusive of the control room log, heat rate, lube oil consumption, reliability and availability and take the necessary measures to ensure that the plant is operating within acceptable parameters. 
  • Ensure that plant personnel are properly equipped with the required tools and equipment to execute job functions. 
  • Work closely with the Company’s engineers to review and modify plant systems to ensure the highest integrity of systems to provide uninterrupted power supply at the most efficient cost. 
  • Perform appropriate failure analyses to determine failure modes and cause of failure of equipment and recommend course of action. 
  • Recommend improved ways of work methods currently being practiced. 
  • Oversees energy conservation programmes at the facility. 
  • Evaluate progress reports submitted by experts assigned to the plant to assess performance.  Determine and direct corrective actions accordingly. 
  • Monitor engineering projects at the plant and provide technical guidance to ensure the satisfactory completion of same 
  • Conduct economic evaluation on pending projects, feasibility studies and make recommendations to the Chief Technical Officer.  
  • Manage and develop other routine and non-routine reports as requested by the Chief Technical Officer.  
  • Responsible for developing the capital budget and operating budgets for submission to the finance division.   
  • Manage and develop all operations and maintenance personnel. 
  • Supervise direct reports and perform appraisals as required. 
  • Perform other related functions as assigned by the Chief Technical Officer. 

 

Qualification and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or Engineering or minimum Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Systems) from a recognized tertiary Institution.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in power systems and power generation 
  • Minimum (5) years in a Production Manager or other managerial position.
  • Expert in Project Evaluation and Risk Analysis 
  • Reliability Maintenance Strategies
  • Expert in the operations and maintenance of power plants 
  • Working knowledge of general industrial safety 
  • Complex Problem Solving in order to develop and implement solutions  
  • Excellent leadership and teambuilding qualities 
  • Excellent human relations and interpersonal interaction
