This job is located within the Operations at Morton Bahamas Limited with responsibility for Maintenance of Mechanical equipment, primary and secondary, including but not limited to: Power stations, Hauling fleet, Heavy Equipment, and Boats. The job troubleshoots, overhauls, repairs, and maintains diesel engines, gasoline engines, and auxiliary equipment for company operations. Knowledge of mechanical schematics and the ability to operate specialize tools and heavy-duty equipment is required. Adhere to and report on Company Environmental Health and Safety policies. Good technical knowledge of computer application(s). Mechanical technology principles are required. Works under general supervision and follows established guidelines and procedures.

Duties may include:

  • Repair and service plant vehicles and rolling stock e.g., compressors, jackhammers.


  • Direct senior auto mechanic, senior mechanic and tradesman by giving instructions on how to perform assigned tasks and assist with training.


  • Drives and operates all primary and secondary equipment, hauling units, heavy, medium, and light equipment, trucks and boats.


  • Performs a variety of other related duties such as: assist staff in maintenance, installation of new machines and plant equipment, ensure timely collection of all samples for analysis.


  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical defects on the power plant equipment. This involves the use of schematic, and the analysis of operational parameters (i.e., temperatures, pressures, etc.).


  • Performs routine maintenance and major overhauls on diesel engines, gasoline engines and auxiliaries. This includes a range of mechanical tasks such as: qualifying or replacing various components, and equipment installation and assembly, which usually require precision alignments.


  • Plans mechanical based jobs. This includes the preparation of a list of needed spare parts for submittal to the supervisor and the co-ordination of mechanical tasks with peers/subordinates.


  • Maintain and repair electrical equipment and auxiliaries. This involves cleaning, overhauling, calibrating and testing tasks performed on various diesel and gasoline engines and other electrical components and equipment.


  • Prepares technical reports with regards to the performance of plant equipment and assignments. This includes reports such as: defects report, performance statistics, and assignment progress reports.

  • Job Requirements and Difficulty of Work


  • Requires knowledge of mechanical and electrical schematics, equipment, and the ability to use specialized tools to affect the repairing and continuous operation of machinery. Requires a recognized certification, arithmetic and written skills to prepare daily logs and reports. Requires leadership skills and a valid driver' license. Proficiency in the use of mechanical tools and measuring/operational devices. Requires adherence to Company Environmental Health and Safety Standards. References used include all service, repair and parts manuals physical and electronic. Requires High School Diploma or equivalent with Two years of college level mechanics with successful completion of a Formal certification ASE, or the equivalent in diesel and gasoline mechanics, and 10 years of experience or equivalent.

  • Responsibility


  • Works under general supervision and follows established guidelines and procedures.

    Makes choices and decisions regarding diverse troubleshooting, equipment repair tasks, and assignments to subordinates. Work involves the same or similar tasks each day. Error impact is typically major e.g., incorrect assembly of an equipment component, not replacing parts securely, causing leaks and damage to machinery, resulting in costly repairs and loss of production tonnage. Leads staff and contractors in installation, maintenance and repair work by giving instructions and reviewing completed assignments.

    • Physical Effort


    Lift heavy equipment occasionally is required. Climbs, bends, and works in confined spaces occasionally.

  • Work Environment


  • Works indoors and outdoors. Moderate exposure to hazardous conditions, such as: extreme heat, noise, and exposure to fuels and oils (i.e., skin contact and fumes). Requires regular use of PPE steel toe boots, coveralls, safety glasses, hard hats and earplugs.

  • Education

  • Prefers High School Diploma, BTVI, NTA or equivalent certificate or equivalent with Two years of college level mechanics with successful completion of a Formal certification ASE, or the equivalent in diesel and gasoline mechanics.
