The Government of Montserrat is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for the post of Head Teacher of a public primary school.

The requirements for the post is a strong decisive leader whose past performance shows the ability to change a culture within an organization and to place the school on a trajectory of improving performance year-on-year.

 

JOB PURPOSE

To lead and manage a Primary School in accordance with Government’s policies and the Ministry of Education’s goals. In this role the post holder will be accountable to the Education Officer with responsibility for Primary Education.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage the school in accordance with the Education Act and its Regulations and the policies of the Ministry of Education including the Education Development Plan (EDP).
  • Organize and implement the prescribed curriculum for the school, having regard to the; 
    • needs, experience, interests, aptitudes and stages of development of each student.
    • resources available to the school.
  • Implement and manage an effective Behavior Management Strategy.
  • Supervise and deploy all staff that has been assigned to the school including volunteers. 
  • Ensure the proper maintenance and care of school property and physical plant by reporting all faults or visible damages.
  • Evaluate the standards of teaching and learning in school, and ensure that proper standards of professional performance are established and maintained.
  • Administer relevant forms of assessments (both formative and summative) to measure student competencies and target achievements.
  • Create an environment and culture where every child feels safe, supported and can achieve. 
  • Keep a register for SEND students.
  • Prepare an annual operational plan for the school.
  • Compile an annual School Self-Assessment (SSA) Report in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Education.
  • Keep parents informed of the progress and development of students.
  • Promote satisfactory and healthy relationships with parents and the community served by the school.
  • Facilitate the promotion of activities in the school which highlights Montserrat’s cultural heritage, traditions and practices.

 

PERSONNEL SPECIFICATIONS

The applicant should possess:-

  • A Degree in Educational Leadership/Management or in Education.
  • Certificate/Diploma in Education Or A Degree in a subject area relevant to teaching
  • A Teacher Training Certificate or a Diploma in Education from a recognised University or College.
  • At least five (5) years strong leadership experience 
  • At Least 5-7 years working experience in a school with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • A Recent Police Character Certificate
  • Excellent communication skills to ensure good communication with Supervisors, teachers and members of the community
  • Strong strategic planning and thinking skills

 

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

Appointment will be made on a contractual basis in the first instance after which permanent arrangements can be offered.

 

REMUNERATION PACKAGE

Basic Salary is within the scale of R12 – R10, that is EC$68,856.00 - EC$72,192.00 annually (Taxable)

Allowance: Travel – EC$4,800.00 per annum (non-taxable)
