Restaurant Manager

Reporting Relationship: This position reports directly to the Restaurant General Manager and indirectly to the Operations Buisness Partner.

Summary: This position encompasses responsibility for managing all aspects of a specific department(s) within the restaurant including the selection, development and performance management of restaurant employees, optimizing profits and increasing sales. Manages scheduled shifts ensuring guest satisfaction. Manages all operational issues ensuring Friday’s standards of quality and service are met.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages all areas of operations for a specific department (i.e. Front of House or Bar) including marketing, human resources, profitability and sales growth while ensuring Friday’s standards of quality and service. Builds sales and controls costs.
  • Manages entire operation of restaurant during scheduled shifts which include daily decision making, staff support, guest interaction, scheduling, planning while upholding standards, product quality and cleanliness.
  • Manages staffing throughout shift including deciding when employees can check out for the day.
  • Provides employees with positive and negative feedback and takes appropriate action.
  • Ensures that all employees adhere to the Company’s uniform standards.
  • Performs line checks throughout shift.
  • Provides direction to employees regarding operational and procedural issues.
  • Performs checkouts of Waiter/Waitress and bartenders ensuring that all tickets are accounted for, all comps have been signed, the proper amount of cash and all credit card vouchers are obtained from employees and that the minimum amount of tips have been declared.
  • Ensures that department is properly staffed to par, at all times. Using the gold selection process, interviews hourly employees for department. Manages and schedules department as required. Conducts orientation and ensures ongoing development of staff. Conducts  Performance  Reviews every six (6) months with department employees. Implements manpower plan for hourly staffing.
  • Ensures that proper cash handling procedures are followed. Balances cash on hand with End of Day report, if closing manager. Prepares cash drawers and performs cash drop at end of AM shift. Disburses petty cash as required.
  • Prepares reports at end of shift which may include: Daily Labour Control, Daily Food Control and Daily Sales.
  • Prepares daily food production and pars as necessary. Orders produce daily as required.
  • Checks in liquor, wine and beer ensuring company is billed for proper amount.
  • Identifies operational opportunities; creates and implements plans to address opportunities (i.e. R&M, marketing). Creates and executes plan for department sales, profit and people development.
  • Approves all food or beverage comps or promos.
  • Develops employees for In-Store-Training.
  • Ensures a safe working and guest environment to reduce the risk of injury and accidents.
  • Completes accident reports promptly in the event a guest or employee is injured.
  • Ensures that proper security procedures are in place to protect employees, guests  and  company assets, including security of beer walk-in, liquor room, store room, freezer and office. Pulls items from these areas as required throughout shift.
  • Checks in cleaning crew if closing manager.
  • Keeps immediate supervisor promptly and fully informed of all issues (i.e. problems, unusual matters of significance and positive events) and takes prompt corrective action where necessary or suggests alternative courses of action.
  • Completes job responsibilities and performance objectives in a timely and effective manner and in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a favourable working relationship with all company employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate which will be conducive to maximum employee moral, productivity and efficiency/effectiveness.
  • At all times provides a favourable image of TGI Friday’s Inc. to promote its aims and objectives and foster and enhance public recognition and acceptance of all of its areas of endeavour.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.
  • Supervise 20 - 30 Team Members.
  • Ensure Food Safety Standards are being adhered to.
  • Complete online Food Safety Training for certification annually.
  • Conduct department meetings in order to foster good working relationships amongst Team Members.
  • Conducts employee bag checks at the end of each shift.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • University or college degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience working in a full service restaurant preferred.
  • Proficient  in  the  following   dimensions  of  management  methods:    HR Planning, Communication, Mentoring and Development, Quality of Operations, Leadership.
  • Upon completion of training, must be validated on all positions in restaurant.

 

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Must be able to coordinate multiple tasks while maintaining required standards of operation in daily restaurant activities.
  • Must be able to determine applicability of experience and qualifications of job applicants.
  • Must be able to draw on Operations experience and knowledge of Friday’s procedures to recommend appropriate solutions to restaurant problems.
  • Must be able to interact with the public and all levels of employees both within and outside of the organization.
