Industrial Hygiene Coordinator - Job ID# 14081

OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE

  • The Industrial Hygiene Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the development, implementation and performance management of the Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene (IH) component of the Integrated HSE Management System Framework for the Company in accordance with the overall Occupational Health and Hygiene strategic objectives.
  • The position ensures that the required controls are implemented to eliminate, and prevent occupational disease, injury or hazards by chemical, physical, and biological agents, or ergonomic factors.

FUNCTIONS

  • Assists in the development, implementation and performance management of the Industrial Hygiene Program and Occupational Health Plan for projects and operating facilities to make safety an integral part of every task.
  • Proposes and facilitates Occupational Health/Hygiene activities and implements Occupational Health/Hygiene plans and programs towards resolving occupational health issues.
  • Drafts site health and hygiene procedures and helps functional groups translate requirements into practice.
  • Provides technical advice and collaboration with workers regarding Occupational Health and Hygiene concerns relative to regulations, training, risk identification, hazard evaluation and control.
  • Interprets and applies relevant Occupation Health and Industrial Hygiene rules, regulations and standards and provides support to projects, units, departments, divisions and groups.
  • Collates Occupational Health statistics (KPI’s) for review, towards the preparation of reports, decision making and overall communication.
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of the site annual Industrial Hygiene monitoring program based on short and long-term exposure monitoring strategies and ensures program compliance within regulations.
  • Implements corrective actions and suspends operations if continuation of work compromise safety and security.
  • Collaborates with internal key stakeholder to facilitate safety and security training, presentations, and awareness interventions to ensure consistency in knowledge sharing and compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of updated laws, policies and procedures and consistently adheres to occupational health and safety legislations.
  • Assists in the investigation of incidents to determine causation factors in safety and occupational health issues.
  • Collaborates in the development and monitoring of employee wellness and medical surveillance programs.
  • Provides formal reports as directed, on the implementation of health initiatives and performance achieved.
  • Cooperates in ensuring that the workplace is safe for everyone and takes reasonable care to ensure that nothing is done to endanger self or others or cause avoidable damage to the environment.
  • Demonstrates adherence to the Company’s health, safety, security and environmental policies and procedures by exhibiting the required behaviours.
  • Executes any other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The minimum requirements for the position are:

  • A first degree in Natural Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, or related discipline from a recognized, accredited institution.
  • NEBOSH Level III Certification in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist will be an asset.
  • A minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience in the industrial hygiene field or related occupational health and safety in an industrial environment.
  • Experience in interpreting Regulations, HSE Codes, Practices and Procedures and their application.

  • Trinidad and Tobago Occupational Safety and Health Act (2004).
  • Trinidad and Tobago Environmental Management Act (2000) and subsidiary legislation.
  • Industrial hygiene and Safety Controls including Surveillance, Safety-related risk assessments and corrective actions.
  • Occupational safety practices.
  • Operating configuration and lockout/tag out policies and practices.
  • Techniques and procedures for Industrial Hygiene monitoring and sample analysis.
  • Statistical Analysis and Reporting tools and application and assessments.
  • Worksite procedures physical layouts.
